Is Your Breakfast Cereal Making You Fat?

The majority of cereals are promoted as “healthy foods” by the large food corporations. However, these common breakfast cereals drain energy levels, causing diabetes, excess body fat, cancer, and even quicker aging in your body.  If you care about your body and your families health, it’s time to cut down on cereal consumption. It’s become more than evident that sweet cereals like corn flakes with sugar frosting, frosted wheat biscuits, and marshmallow cereals are so unhealthy that parents may be poisoning their kids. So the big question, Is Your Breakfast Cereal Making You Fat?

Breakfast Cereals Are Making You Fat

Even breakfast cereals that aren’t frosted in sugar are marketed heavily as “heart healthy”, “rich in fiber” and “a good source vitamins & minerals”… Sadly,  nothing could be further from the truth!

The majority of cereals (even “whole grain” or “high fiber”) trigger severe damage to your hormones and produce runaway blood sugar levels in your body.

One of the WORST things about most cereals, even so-called “whole grain” cereals is that they ALL trigger a considerable spike in your blood sugar (despite whether they are wheat, rice, or corn based) to dangerously high levels, which leads to fat storing hormones released in your body and causing more carb cravings later in the day.  This is NOT the way to start your day if your trying to lose belly fat.

In fact, even cereals that have brought in fiber (such as bran flakes or raisin bran) have actually been found to cause just as much of a spike in blood sugar level as the low-fiber cereals such as rice or corn based cereals. Keep in mind that the starches in wheat, corn, or a bowl of rice cereal break down quickly in your body into SUGAR and immediately do as much harm to your blood sugar regulation as if you consumed 40-60 grams of corn syrup or table sugar.

Those enormous spikes in your blood sugar level essentially damage your cells in your body through a process called glycation, which speeds up the rate of aging in your joints, skin, organs, and even your brain.  Also, your hormones are effected by high blood sugar levels that it blunts the capability of your body to release a growth hormone (aka, the youth hormone), and cereals are NOT helping you in that department to keep your youthful look.

Keep in mind: Relating to the claims that cereals are a “excellent source of vitamins and minerals”, this is in fact INCORRECT.  The majority of minerals and vitamins in dozens of cereals are not naturally occurring, however are synthetically added vitamins, which have actually been proven to be less absorbed than natural vitamins and potentially even harmful sometimes.

Diabetes and belly fat every morning with your cereal.

Think about this next time you’re gobbling down that bowl of bran flakes, rice puffs, or wheat bisquits while you’re running out the door in the morning …

The more cereal you consume, the more you continuously stress your pancreas and other organs involved in regulating your blood sugar.  Your insulin levels surge every day to control your massive blood sugar level attacks from all those sugary cereals and your insulin suffers greatly, leading many people to type 2 Diabetes, and a life of injecting insulin with needles and stabbing your fingers every day for blood tests 3-5x every day of your life.

Not just that, however causing high insulin levels in your body every morning by consuming sugary cereals it also triggers your body to KEEP the body fat.  So if you wish to be lean, cereal is just the opposite of your objective and is only making you fatter!

Digestive tract swelling as well as digestive tract damage?

Any cereals with wheat active ingredients in them can possibly cause intestinal inflammation and long term digestive tract damage from too much gluten and lectins even if you’re not officially gluten intolerant or gluten delicate.

Believe those corn-based cereals are much better than wheat? Reconsider! Corn-based cereals are almost always made with GMO corn which has lots of researchers very concerned about long term health risks, considering that there are no long term researches on the results of GMO corn to your health, as well as your kids’s health.  Rice-based cereals (krispies, etc) aren’t much better they also trigger just as high of a blood sugar spike as pure table sugar.

cereals are full of sugar and making you fat

Cereal causes CRAVINGS for more carbohydrates later in the day, causing excess calories.

The blood glucose spike and subsequent insulin surge from your morning cereal makes your body to attempt to obtain all that sugar out of your blood and into cells (normally fat cells), which causes a big drop in your blood sugar hours later. This makes you want more carb-based or sugary foods later on in the day.

The outcome of this is a continuous wild roller coaster ride of blood sugar and insulin all day, leading you to consume more calories through out the day.

Studies have shown that individuals who consumed egg-based breakfasts vs cereal-based breakfasts consumed far more fat in the morning, but ended up eating much less calories throughout the day since they didn’t have the wild blood sugar swings, hormone imbalances.  Egg breakfasts are proven to CONTROL your cravings, while cereal breakfasts are shown to ENHANCE your appetite for more food, specifically more starchy and sweet carbohydrates.  Cereal makes your body a carb-burner instead of a fat-burner.

The more carbohydrates that you consume each day from foods such as cereal and breads, the more you train your body to depend on carbs for energy. So when your blood sugar dips again, you require more carbs again, or you’ll have a significant energy downturn.

On the other hand, the more that you get the majority of your calories from healthy fats instead (avocados, coconut oil, grass-fed butter and cream, olive oil, nuts, seeds, eggs, and pasture-raised meats), the more you train your body to be a fat-burning device.

This is called producing a “fat adapted metabolism” and you do this by minimizing your overall carbohydrate intake and all at once enhancing your healthy fat intake.  Another benefit of developing a “fat adapted metabolism” in your body is that you will naturally lose body fat easier!

Instead of the typical cereal in the morning, try a bowl of plain greek full-fat natural yogurt (which is loaded with healthy digestive tract probiotics, healthy fats, AND protein) and add in a handful of fresh, organic berries (or frozen wild blueberries), a handful of nuts such as either almonds or pecans (more healthy fats), and a little stevia or vanilla protein for a little additional sweet taste if you need it.  This breakfast will leave you leaner, keep your blood sugar, energy levels, and hormones stabilized for the day, and prevent cravings for more starchy and sweet carbohydrates later on in the day.

Another option is just any mix of eggs, veggies, avocado, and even natural breakfast meat if you want. One of my favorite quick breakfasts is to formulate a couple eggs over easy genuine fast and slice a half of an avocado on a plate.
